I
started Piggy and The Moon Educational Consulting, LLC as an educator and a
new mother. Although I originally started it as a company to advocate
for special education students, I found that my friends with "regular
education" students had just as many questions as those with "special
education" students.
Therefore, I expanded the business to include three areas:
1) Parenting Advice: Teaching parents effective ways to communicate with their children and prepare them for thier education experiences.
2) Educational Consulting: Teaching parents and educators about trends in the field of education and helping parents to understand how they can help their children navigate these trends, and
3) Special Education Advocacy: Guiding parents through the special education system and ensuring that they understand their rights.
"Piggy and the Moon" was named in honor of Marco, our first child, whose first dream that he shared with us was of a pig flying him to the moon. Each night, before we tuck our children into bed, we say, "Piggy and the moon, pleasant dreams," in hopes that they can rest easily. I hope that my work with Piggy and the Moon will help other parents and children rest more easily!
I
am an educational consultant and parent advocate
living in Stamford, CT, where I serve on the Parent Advisory Board
to the Director of Special Education. I was a classroom teacher for
many years in both public and private schools before I left to earn my
doctoral degree in Learning dis/Abilities from Teachers College,
Columbia University. I have authored several articles, received a
grant from the Department of Education, and given presentations at
numerous professional conferences. I also provide educational
advice
on the upcoming web site ParentConnect.com. Professionally, I am
interested in working with both teachers and parents to ensure that all
students have access to appropriate education. Most importantly, I am
the mother of four children: Marco, Jenna, & Sarah, and Stefan.
